As far as pushing option 1 to be put on their do not call list.  Don't bother.  That just proves to them that you are a valid phone number.  I made the same mistake...

These idiots have been calling for months, I have called back various times and pressed "1" to be removed from their list, but to not avail.  That's a long twenty-four hours, that's what they say it will take to be removed from their calling list.  Just another bunch of scum calling to scam everyone, don't answer when they call and it's apparently of no use to call back  and ask to be removed since they are still calling after about  "5" attempts to have them remove my number. JUST IGNORE THEIR CALLS.
Report by jackie Long ago Unknown
pressing #1 to have your name removed from the list is a HUGE error.. then they know they have a good phone line and they WILL NOT STOP CALLING !I just filed FCC complaints on 3 numbers that are repeatedly (like every day !) calling me.  To file your FCC complaint, go to http://www.fcc.gov/complaints and follow the instructions.   A bigger help is to track every single time you get a call, the number it allegedly comes from and the date and time of the call.   Once the FCC has three calls from one number,  they are good to go and will go after the holder of this number.  Sadly, most of these are fake numbers and I'm not sure what the FCC can do.

If you want to lower your electric rates, don't do it over the telephone.  Choose the LOWEST cost by visting the PA Power Switch web site, run by the PA Public Utility Commission.http://www.papowerswitch.com/I would NEVER trust someone who called ME on the phone.  I have NO IDEA who they might be, because caller id can be spoofed.  It could be CROOKS trying to get my information so they could open up credit cards in my name.  They could use my utility information to fool banks into giving them a loan in my name.

First of all, this number is a number from Easton, Maryland according to the white pages.  It is a cell number or an unpublished number.  I called them several times-probably 20. Just to give them a dose of their own medicine. Everytime they answered, they asked for my number. I told them that they obviously have my number if they left me a message and I would not give it to them.  At first they called me by some Spanish name - accent - i dont even have an accent. They got mad when i started laughing at them. This final time I called them I told them that I knew who they were, their company was only a shell company, and they are scammers.  I also told them that I was going to report them.  He hung up on me.  I called back 3 minutes later and asked to find out my "court date" and what time I need to be at the courthouse on tomorrow.  He in turn asked me why do I keep calling him and harrassing him. My response?  Stop calling and harassing me.  Its been 10 minutes.  I should call back.

I got this call also, when I asked what I owed they said 2K. For one thing I never took a loan out for that much. I called them back and asked when this loan was taken out, he said 2009 to 2011, I said that was impossible since I never heard of Payday loans until recently. I asked who the loan came from, he said Cash Advanced America, I asked for the payday loan companies phone number and he gave it to me. I called Cash Advanced America and they said the loan amount was for $500 and that it was taken out in 20122. I mentioned the earlier call, he said he could not do anything but give me the lawfirms number, I said I would like that then he hung up on me. I tried calling back and got message that the extention was not avaiable, I left messages and they never called back, but the other one at 410-690-4038 called again. I spoke to the same guy I asked for the person who called me (Mary Green) he said he was her supervisor and I spoke to him the other day. He said I would be arrested at 11:30am today, I told him I know he was not legit, that I ran his name and their phone number, he started to get huffy with me and I responed make sure you send my brother for he is the police then he hung up on me.

I said I have no clue what you are talking about and he said the same nonsense and even went as far as questioning me about "taking money", being a fraud", etc! Phantom Debt Collectors From India Harass Americans, Demand MoneyBy BRIAN ROSS (@brianross) , CINDY GALLI and MATTHEW MOSK (@mattmosk) June 7, 2012 Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News. The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans -- especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans. Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims -- even when the victims never owed money in the first place."This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud."Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least 2.5 million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than $5 million. Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour. They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance.Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money. He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News. "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am."At first, she said she resisted. Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for 27 years."I was more or less was in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully. "So I agreed to pay him."After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments. They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men."I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr. Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz.ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas.Patel refused to talk. But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client. Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing."I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said. "He's a 69-year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up. He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem."A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone -- he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme."If Mr. Patel was just a cog in the wheel he seems to have been a pretty big cog," Leibowitz said. "It is clear that Patel was integrally involved with this scam." Leibowitz points to thousands of pages of financial and phone records gathered by the FTC and filed as part of a civil case brought against him in the U.S. District Court in Sacramento last month. When FTC lawyers sought to freeze his assets and prevent his business from continuing to operate, Patel responded by invoking his rights against self-incrimination. His lawyer told ABC News he has had to be careful in how he responds to the allegations in civil court "because there is a potential criminal action," but that Patel maintains the allegations against him are false. Federal investigators said the phantom debt collection operation that allegedly benefitted from Patel's assistance was one of several that all trace back to the same small town in Western India called Ahmedabad. Callers use technology to make it appear that the calls originate inside the U.S. Victims provided ABC News with recordings of dozens of the calls, and many of the thickly accented callers appear to be reading off a script. "Subpoenas have been readied, and Monday morning you're going to be picked up from your home," one caller says on a victim's voicemail. "And you have children. Don't worry about your children. We have a childcare department to take care of the children." "You will be behind bars for six months," said another caller. "And once you go behind bars, you will lose your job. Once you are behind the bars, you won't get a single drop of water." William Peerce Howard, a Tampa attorney who represents victims of harassment from debt collectors, said it takes an especially twisted criminal to use threats and coercion to pry money from someone who is already struggling financially "These guys really are the most visible villains in America today," he said. "They make a living scaring people."Mark Merola, of Florida, said he just panicked when the caller told him he might be arrested at the deli where he works in a Florida retirement community. "I was nervous. I didn't want to embarrass myself, my family," he said. He used his debit card to pay the collector $576. Afterwards, he says he realized "how stupid I was." "It just happened so fast," he said. "I got scared." Leibowitz said he hopes with more attention, future potential targets of the scam will recognize red flags before they turn over any money. If callers say they are from the police, consumers should know that law enforcement officers do not collect debt for private parties. If the caller is speaking with a thick Indian accent, but calls themselves by a names such as Officer Mike Johnson, that should be a tip off. And if they're calling 40 times in two hours, that's another red flag. "Legitimate debt collectors, legitimate pay day lenders don't do those sorts of things," he said. Merola said he would like to see anyone involved in the scam prosecuted aggressively. "There's no place in society for these people," he said. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... 16512428&page=2

Hello guys, just to confirm this is a legit number from bank of america fraud detection department, and the reason why it hand up when you pickup your phone is because this is an automatic system who call you when they send you a message when the system detect an "Irregular Activity" in one of your account. If you dont trust me just check your email after you receive the call and you will see the message they send you to call them.

dude i got a call today myself from 315-724-4022 - i quickly googled it and found this thread as with the elections i have been demotard spammed with political calls so i look them up first - by the time i saw it was a boa number the call hung up. no message. so i called it back - went to boa debit fraud line, i get an operator. said no fraud on my acct. said no one called me but i told them this # belongs to them and i called them back on it. later in afternoon i get one of those phishing emails - and guess what - it had my acct name on it. how the hell did the phisher get my friggin account name?????

So I got a call from this number last week.  They told me that there was something wrong with my account and such.  It felt fishy that they called me and were asking me for security questions like what's my CVV number and the expiration date of my card; both information that you shouldn't give out unless you purchase stuff online.  Since I was on the road while they called I told them that I'd just stop into a BofA nearby. While I was in the branch one of the tellers had me call from one of their land lines to confirm.  Low and behold they told me that there was a mass breach with accounts and I had to get a new card.  So the call might seem legit but it's better safe than sorry to go into a bank or contact an official number yourself just to be safe.  Whom ever did the breach may have gotten your account number and telephone number but that could be all they could have gotten.I would just say use common sense and don't give out information if they called you.  Use legit numbers or go into a bank to make sure.

Initially I thought this was a scam at first, but I just called the BOA number on the back of my card 1800-551-4453 and spoke with a BOA representative who confirmed that my card and others were compromised at a local gas station. The 315-724-4022 is a number you can find at the back of your BOA DEBIT card. If you still think this is a SCAM, call the number listed on your card just in case.I hope this helps

I got an email alert (an alert that I set up personally on my account some time ago), saying that there was "irregular activity" on my debit card.I logged into my BofA account and checked my alert history, and they did in fact send me the email alert. So, I used the online chat tool to talk to a BofA rep, and they confirmed that the email was legit, and told me to call the number in the email to unblock my card. When I called them, they said that my debit card number was reported to BofA to have been stolen (I have to wait for a letter in the mail for the details). They told me I would get a new card in about 7 days, and to go to the bank in person if I needed a temporary card.I also had a phone call on my phone (from the 315-724-4022 number), but I never answered when they called. So, fact: BofA DID send me a legitimate email alert. So, fact: I did get a call from the 315-724-4022 number, which I did not answer. So, fact: BofA chat told me to call the phone number in the EMAIL ("call us immediately at 1.877.833.5617 in the US; international customers please call collect at 602.597.2395")So, fact: I called the 877 number, they confirmed my card had been blocked, will send me a new cardSo, fact: I am going to the bank right now to get a temporary call.Is the call left on my phone legit? Don't know. It could be from the same people that compromised my card.Lesson: always deal directly with BofA (or any bank), using official communications (chat via your online bank account, or call them directly).A pain in the a**, but I had my card number stolen years ago and used by someone out of state. I am glad BofA does what it does now.

This is NOT a scam and I am thankful that Bank of America called me.  I called the 800# (just in case) and there was a hold on my account. The automated section asks to verify (or not) a charge. In my case someone attempted to charge over $300 at Banana Republic and it was declined. Then again tonight they ate pretty good at Greek Jalepeno. Both located in Boca Raton Florida. Always call back on the 800# and make sure no one is taking your money. If it is a scam then nothing is lost just don't give out any info. If it's real BoA has saved you a lot of money. You are covered for the past 60 days. Now I have to wait for another card. And I think I know what establishment has unethical employees! Why do people do this?

It may be legitimate, but you should never give any personal information to someone who calls you. That's a very dangerous practice. You should always call your creditor directly at a number known to you if there is ever any question. Tusting a source because of what you see on a Caller ID is very bad practice. I worked for a major telcom for over 25 years and can tell you a phone number can be spoofed with the right equipment and software. However, if you want your identity stolen, by all means, give out your personal information.

Yea, the number may be correct, but if you miss the call and it is outside of business hours (M-F 8-5, Sat 9-1) you will not be able to do anything until the next day....I am in Houston, and last night, after shopping for clothes and shoes for my son's upcoming wedding and for the bridal shower, found my card to be declined when paying for dinner...good thing I don't just have BOA cards! When I called the number on the back of the card, my only option to speak to a representative, would be if my card was lost or stolen, to have my account frozen. Otherwise, I would have to wait until Monday to fix my situation. I hate it when they babysit my cards, and think I never travel...I travel all the time! and when they see charges outside of my home area, they make an automated call and when it is not answered, they freeze my card just the same. The 315 number that called me was indeed BofA fraud protection. They called me last week to let me know that some merchant's database was compromised so they were sending out a new card with a new number as a precaution. The call I got this morning was a follow up.It is never a bad idea to call BofA on the number you know is valid in order to verify the legitimacy, but claiming that all calls from this 315 number are a scam is simply incorrect.

For the record, this is a legit BOFA telephone number and automated message.  I just received a voicemail from this number in Utica, NY which mentioned there were suspicious charges on my debit card and that my account had been temporarily suspended.  I thought it sounded very suspicious.  I did not call back the number left in the voice mail, but rather called the fraud department at BOFA directly (number is on their website). Turns out someone tried to buy $500 worth of gift cards at a Home Depot using my card.  I asked the rep if the call I received was legit and he said that if it came from Utica, NY it was legit.  While I agree the voice mail sounds like a scam (I also received a similar message via text), it definitely was not in this instance.  Not sure about some of those claiming to have received a call from this number without having a BOFA bank account, but there is no doubt my card information was stolen and the call from this number was to inform me of the suspicious activity on my account.

If it is out of area or some other dummy number....I pick up and hit the star key (*) as fast as I can and then put it on hold for about a minute!  This leaves them wondering.  The caller does not know what to think and after a few times the calls stop from this particular number because they DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS A LIVE PERSON OR - WHAT TIME I AM HOME.  You see many times a call is made to a random number just to see if there is a live person on the other end and what time they are home.  This info is given to another caller to call a different day at this same time.  This is why I don't allow it to go to the V.M. if I can help it.  I do not want these callers to know that this is a real persons number.  Lots of work but it is kind of fun knowing that they are wasting their time more than mine :)  And if they keep calling anyway, I just block it.  When blocked the phone only rings once so not to annoy me.

Are people really simple minded enough to change their vote to an entire political ticket because of a phone call? So if we just got rid of telemarketing political BS then our country would not be in the mess that it's in right now...

I called the number on my bofa card to find out the legitimacy of the call. Bofa say the number is INVALID. YES. AS PEOPLE HERE SAY, THE NUMBER 315-724-4022 IS LISTED ON BOFA WEBSITE, EXCEPT the fact that THE NUMBER IS OUT OF SERVICE AND HAS BEEN LONG DEAD.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway. The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-750-9107/12http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-302-731-1166/2http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-555-0433http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-454-9078http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-302-731-1166http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-669-0102http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-255-3409/3http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-904-954-7500http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-402-935-7733/2http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-830-8574http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-824-9289/10http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-800-5234http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-602-766-6484/3http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-824-9289/10http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-800-5234

If you call the same number back, it's an automated system. All you have to do is listen and confirm or deny whichever charges they found to be suspicious. When you confirm that you actually made the purchase the hold is automatically lifted. Right then. Hope that helps for next time. Every time I leave town just about I end up with a hold on my account.

You can't win with BOA...What kind of a bank has B.O. in it's name, anyway?

It's a legit call. I just got off the phone w/ Bank of America (called the number on the back of the debit card to be safe). They flag your card for having "suspicious" transaction history. Just call the number on the back of the card to have the hold lifted.

I read this post after getting a call from the 315 number this morning, and called BofA myself - not the number that called me, but their main number on the back of my card.

It's legit B of A wondering about unusual activity.  The point I didn't understand was I put $3,000 on my card for a Hawaii vacation and they had no problem with that. They did shut me off when I was paying for my meds at a Pharmacy for $50 3 weeks later????

It isn't a SCAM! It's the automated system from B of A's ATM/Debit Customer Protection Department. They are calling because unusual/irregular activity has been detected on the card. The number is actually on the back of the card as well, but it says call collect. Once transactions are verified as legit the temp hold will be removed and you'll be able to use your card as normal.

BOFA did alerts about my card after I did the 14 day trial with ACAi-Bery stuff. I didn't think it was serious..after I got unusual calls of those numbers..the 315 724 4022 the 623 239 4511 and the 551 322 9000 THEY CALLED ME OVER 11 times in 2 days. So...I read the forum and I did cancel my card with BOFA. I didn't have the cahcne to talk to those people though.I prefered to avoid them.

Confirmed with Bofa. It is a SCAM.They called me more than five times over last week.Last time I was able to talk to someone there, she asked my SS number.I said I didn't have one, then she asked my passport and ID number. Why? I do not know. I said I left them home. She gave me to call backwith the passport and ID number to 877-733-5734.It made me doubt. Other fraudsters picked up this number and started their "business". I advise you to fool around a little bit with those guys if you ever get a call from this number. It will be fun. Say that you are going to sue them, you will reverse trace their location, send police, or anything, be creative. JUST DON'T BE SERIOUS WITH THOSE GUYS.Anyway, if you doubt, simply call the number on the back of your Bofa card.Don't read all those comments below. Just call and find out yourself. When I found about it myself, it was a SCAM. If you don't think so,don't post your opinion here. If you are so confident, why not just let people call and find out themselves, you FRAUDSTERS!
