This is a collection agency. My husband has school loans and due to $$ we can not pay now. They refuse to send us anything on paper to prove who they are. They just demand payment over the phone. They are RUDE. I am documenting when they call and sending them a letter regarding the Debt Collection Act. I have looked up the laws and found a great letter to send them.
Report by scotty Long ago Unknown
Well I know it's not a collection agency. They just called my work phone and no one has that # except for the individuals I work with. The phone rang once and before I could pick up they had hung up...wierd? Don't know who it is, but it seems I'm not the only one confused.

Dear Franko - Please read my story about what this collection agency - the most recent of many agencies, "compliments" of a Dept of Education run amuck - who have harrassed me over the last 7+ years because of mistakes THEY/DOE et al made!! It can't be a school loan. I am retired and they keep calling me, too.
Report by Davie Carol Long ago Unknown
Dear "the Goods" - Please read my story about this, my latest *adventure* regarding a student loan - and the FULL PAYMENT the Dept of Education somehow 'overlooked' but blames me for the error - and how, although it's against the law, they're still harrassing me after 7+ years (statute of limitations) added to the ELEVEN YEARS (from 1989 until 11/2000)they never bothered with me at all.  Davie Carol in Tiptonville, TN. Contact me at davie.carol@yahoo.com if you wish.
Report by Sherry Long ago Unknown
Why are you having to pay $300/month??!!  I thought Student Loan payments are $50/month.  It is my understanding that if you tell them to stop calling, they have to stop calling.  If they don't, then you can charge them with harassment. I'm sure there may be some differences between states.  I get a call from them at LEAST once a day - every day.  I just don't answer and they don't leave a message.  ;o)God Bless!
Report by Just_Ignore_Them Long ago Unknown
"What kind of people work in these agencies?"They are probably in arrears on their student loan(s) just like I am, so the collection agency put them to work instead, LOL.  I don't even bother answering.
Report by dorry Long ago Unknown
Sorry there is no statue of limitation on student loans.  That was another thing that got changed.  And they do not work for the government.  And that came from the student loan office.  They can threaten to take you house and drain your bank account.  But they have no leagal right to do so.  What kind of people work in these agencies?
Report by Davie Carol Long ago Unknown
Dear Deb ~ PLEEZ let me hear from you so we can compare HORROR STORIES. In my case, they admit they're violating the seven year statute of limitations laws (nevermind the ELEVEN years I never heard from them in the first place! - from 1989 to 11/2000)but claim they don't have to abide by any of the laws if they don't want to since they're "the government". I even had credit life/disability insurance on this loan but "the government" said they decided to disregard it, just because........davie.carol@yahoo.com

Washington State Law is Once a Week. You must remember these places hireanyone that know's how to used a phoneand don't care about the laws. The bestway to get them to stop calling you istell them you are recording this calland ask them to state there full name /the time and the date. And you are doingfor your lawyer,so you can sue them.
Report by Davie Carol Long ago Unknown
Collection agency laws, which were changed a few years ago, state that the agency can call anytime, and as often as they choose, b/t the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, which altered and thereby violates  the old law that said SUNDAY was a Day of Rest. May whoever changed and got that law passed rot in HELL for it! Davie Carol in Tiptonville, TN.

I think it's student loan hunters too.I am not working so I can't pay for now. They are on my tail big time. This loan is from 1988 and they won't give up. I know I owe the money, but life circumstances have prevented me from paying $300 bucks a month to them.

I love this website! I love being able to come here and check out a number...especially since I don't pick up the phone for suspicious numbers or unknown caller i.d.'s. I now have a great system for stopping these calls. I got PHONE TRAY call blocker,, and I love it!!!!!. it's a software program that's was easy to install and set up, preference-wise. It's zaps an incoming call after one short ring with whatever message you want to give the caller...from silence to a loud, shrieking sound in their ear, to a legitimate-sounding recording like, "The number you have called is not in service. Please make sure you have the right number and have dialed it correctly."AND THE BEST PART: I can block entire codes, like 360, 661, 855 and other area codes/exchanges that have tons of different numbers functioning out of one exchange. It is THE BEST! I got mine this past summer and there was no charge then, but I think they are no longer free. I don't think the price will be too high...maybe in the $30 range, but whatever it is, It's worth the peacce of mind. went to their website, though and the cost for the new version is not going to be very much .Maybe $30+? Whatever it is, it's worth it. it has give me compete freedom from tons of calls a day. And no, I am not with the company! :) Oh, they have a great tech department too. I have two separate lines so it was a little tricky to set up. The young man I spoke with, "Force" was a great help!

Make sure you report EVERY call you get from these people.  You'll need the date of the call, the time of the call, what it ws about, what your caller ID showed,  Was the call a recorded message?  The more complaints they get the more likely the government is going to do their job and shut these folks out.  I'd like to know why it's OK for politicians to use robo calls but not telemarketers.  They are in my opinion the same thing.Go to the National Do Not Call list and register EVERY number you have.  Then every time you get a call create a complaint.

Are you getting tired of unsolicited phone calls from CARD SERVICES or HOME SECURITY companies?  They are seeking to steal from you personal information to gain access to your finances. These calls are generated in China and they use Robo-Dialers.  The only options made available to you by the Robo-Dialer is to press [1] to speak with an operator or press [9] to be put on their DO NOT CALL LIST.  If you press [1] a live operator will come on the phone and try to get you to reveal personal information.  If you press [9] you will hear a comforting message letting you know that you will be removed from their Call List, this is a lie, you will receive more calls within a week or two, and they will not stop. The least you can do is hang up, but they will call back. If your phone goes to answering machine or voice mail, they will call back. If you see their number on your Caller ID and do not pickup, they will call back.  THEY WILL ALWAYS CALL BACK.So what can be done? You can try Call Blocking, but they just change the number that they call from and call back. You can change your phone number, but this will inconvenience your friends, acquaintances and business associates, and their Robo-Dialer will eventually find you and continue the onslaught of unwanted calls.OR you can make it costly to call you.  They make money by talking to live persons, but when their operators talk to prospects that waste their time it cost them money. So press [1] and wait for the operator.  Don’t give immediate answers to their questions, stall as long as possible, keep them on the phone. This cost them money.  They will start noting that when they call your number that it is wasting their most precious resource, time.Keep them on the phone as long as possible; ask them about the weather where they are; pretend you can't find your wallet with your credit card numbers in it; pretend someone is at the door and ask them to hold; jabber on about your health issues and ask them if they have any; tell them all about your next door neighbor's latest trip to Alaska, etc. etc. until they can't stand it any more.  Eventually, if we ALL do this, it will definitely have an effect.  Have some fun at THEIR expense for a change!

What To Do When You Get an Illegal Robocall; http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/robocalls1.    Hang Up. Do not press 1 or any other numbers to get off the list.2.    Consider blocking the number3.    Report it at http://www.fcc.gov/complaints4.    Report it at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov5.    People should continually file complaints with their Attorney Generals office.Register your phone numbers online at http://www.donotcall.gov or call (888) 382-1222 (must call from # you want removed).I have greatly reduced the number of calls to my cell phones by going to my carriers website (Verizon) and they allow me to block up to 5 numbers for 90 days. Since these scum change numbers every 30 I have had a very peaceful time. Call me once shame on you, call me twice shame on me. I also put it in my contacts list under Scum Suckers and assign it NO ring tone so at least after the first call they won't bother me anymore (I have filled all of the numbers in each and am up to Scum Sucker 47 now). This is only a whack-a-mole solution however it is the only one I can offer. The criminals behind this operation do not come to this site and even if they did they would have no intention of truthfully answering questions or removing someone that posts here.I use this site to pass on information that I have gathered and hopefully it will give some insight into these criminal operations. I'm just a poor ignorant uneducated country boy from backwoods Wisconsin who has received more than 350 calls from these scum sucking criminals. If you want to stop these calls then you need to dry up their revenue source.  These scum are making money by sending bogus Caller ID information to your phone company. Telephone numbers are Calling Name (CNAM) provisioned and stored in a special database accessible to other telecom utilities.  This means that for any outbound call that transmits a special  code corresponding to one of their phone numbers, these criminals collect a fee for transmitting the caller ID information to the Local Exchange Carrier receiving the call.  When you see a  phone number in your caller ID (along with some name like Card Services), your phone company has to reimburse the caller for downloading that info from the database where it’s stored. These fees are typically fractions of a cent per call however when these fees are aggregated across tens of millions of outbound calls per week, it amounts to significant money.  Huge volumes of unsolicited telemarketing calls can drive significant revenue into the pockets of these scum sucking criminals. In return your phone company charges you a fee (it may be hidden or $5 to $15 on your phone bill).  Since they only pay out a small portion of this fee this may have something to do with their inability to stop these calls. In order to stop this we need legislation making it illegal for carriers to charge each other for caller ID. If a phone service wishes to operate it would need to provide the caller ID at no charge as part of the service. Here is the $50,000 solution that the FCC is looking for and it doesn't cost anything. If someone makes the mistake of answering the phone and falling for their con then it is just icing on the cake for them. These people are the lowest form of filth on this planet. Many of the disposable numbers come from Pacific Telecom Communications Group and they are currently under investigation and in the midst of various lawsuits. (The principles involved have been part of actions by the FCC under other business names). The Oregon Public Utilities Commission has revoked Pacific Telecom's certificate to provide telecom services in Oregon. Here is an excellent blog site that I found that explains how this company is getting away with this activity.     http://telemarketerspam.wordpress.comWho the suspects are:http://complaintwire.org/complaint/ipzhHRymJA ... gon-robo-dialerhttp://telemarketerspam.wordpress.com/2012/08/30/fred-accuardi-and-illegal-telemarketinghttp://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2011 ... -companies.htmlhttp://www.bbb.org/west-florida/business-revi ... ter-fl-90107305http://investing.businessweek.com/research/st ... vcapId=23957705http://www.ocregister.com/articles/cox-353170-agency-companies.htmlhttp://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0923193/index.shtmhttp://articles.latimes.com/2011/nov/29/business/la-fi-lazarus-20111129http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22278http://www.consumeraffairs.com/debt/client_services_inc.htmlhttp://onthespotblog.com/the-hunt-for-rachel-at-cardholder-serviceshttp://www.scamchecker.com/content/cardmember-services-another-scamhttp://www.state.ia.us/government/ag/latest_n ... fundraiser.htmlMany of these calls are coming from Costa Rica and India and they are using spoofed (false) numbers, which in itself is illegal. They do cold calling for or sell the leads to numerous companies in this country and they know that what they are doing is illegal. Tomorrow this same number may be selling Cruises, Timeshares or Security Systems but if you follow the money it usually ends up in the hands of an American LLC.Most of the inbound robo call numbers are spoofed, as most of the bolierhouses, both off and on shore, are using Voip SIP Trunks services. Throwaway DID numbers are also used. Some of the robocalling is operated by the end use scammers directly. Others are contract services who earn a referral fee once you are transferred to the scammers. How it works:http://blog.usa.gov/post/30393077932/answering-your-questions-about-robocallshttp://onthespotblog.com/on-the-spot-blog-stirs-up-rachel-at-cardholder-services http://onthespotblog.com/tag/cardholder-services/http://complaintwire.org/complaint/ipzhHRymJA ... gon-robo-dialerhttp://telemarketerspam.wordpress.com/2012/08/30/fred-accuardi-and-illegal-telemarketingThe criminals behind this operation aren't going to pay attention to you asking to be removed from their list. Their calls cost them nothing and they can make a million of them a day so they have no intention of ever removing someone. When you press a key to talk to them all that is accomplished is to verify that they have a working number.Unfortunately blowing an air horn or whistle doesn't work either. Their headset have noise dampeners plus they are expecting it. However with that said if it makes you feel better then by all means give it a shot. The banking system is also at fault here, without merchant accounts and ACH processing these criminals could not collect the scammed funds. Though the criminals use obfuscation, layered corporations, multiple bank accounts and offshore stashing, patterns of obvious fraudulent activity become apparent after a short time.If you are interested in obtaining useful tracking information on the callers, I suggest that you act very interested in the rate reduction scam, as you have multiple high interest cards with large balances. Tell them that you don’t give out card numbers in response to unsolicited calls. However, tell them that if they provide you with a verifiable number that you will then call them back and provide the info. Since many of the operatives work on commission they will provide direct contact numbers if they believe you are serious about completing the deal. Verified return phone numbers are an excellent tool in tracking the people behind the operations.Robocalls are illegal unless you have given them prior permission in writing (not worded into some small print contract from a 3rd party) and are absolutely illegal to a cell phone.  The Telephone Consumer Protection Act permits individuals who have received certain unlawful telemarketing, such as junk faxes or telemarketing calls, to sue the violator in state courts where they may be awarded up to $1500 for each violation.http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/robocalls  http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/07/robocall.shtm http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/TCPA-Rules.pdfYou can also try suing them in small claims court. Civil action by the FTC against such criminals is totally ineffective. These criminals need to be charged with Federal Felonies and subjected to significant jail time. All of those involved know that they are violating FTC regulations. The FTC levies huge fines, then rescinds them based on inability to pay. I own my business so I decide what to do with my time. When I get my weekly call from "Card Services" I always opt for a live operator, then keep them on the phone as long as possible with inane answers to their inane questions. You can almost hear them salivate when I make up a credit card debt number of say $120,000. They usually figure it out in about 20 minutes and get really pissed off that I'm wasting their time, which is kind of ironic when you think about it. I figure if I do this enough and stop them from making sales, they'll either get sick of their crappy job and get a real one or not. At least I've saved some other poor schnook from listening to their BS. Plus it's kind of fun to mess with them. If EVERYONE did this, it wouldn't take long to put them out of business as they conversion rate would drop to almost ZERO!!!

Robo call from Rachel, card member services, to lower my credit card rates. Call back yields several options: talk to rep, discontinue calls, leave voice message, report to government agencies. Option 1 had already yielded a hang-up, and on call back all operators are busy. Option 2 was already given on the robo call. Option 3 I'm sure is useless, it would be full of expletive-laden messages and probably is not monitored. Option 4 gives the phone numbers for being put on the federal do not call list, which does no good because I'm already on it.Caller ID showed QALL CORD PHIL

Yeah, I just got this, too, and checked my card number and the number on the back.  I'm kind of wondering if this is a trend.  I also got a text from (415) 615-2433 yesterday saying something about posting new pictures to socialcoupling.com.  When I googled it, I got the same kind of forum as this saying it was a fraud.  I _never_ get phishing texts, and I've had this number for 8 years.  I think someone farmed a common list. Not. Happy. :-(

Received text message from this number at 8:59AM today: "WELLS FARGO BANK ALERT: Your Debit/ATM card #42590 has been temporarily DEACTIVATED. Please call (415) 203-8748" I have no card of ANY kind with WF. Reported as phishing spam to ATT. If you are with ATT - forward these kinds of texts to 7726. They will block the number & trace the fraud!!!

I verified with Wells Fargo (800 number on back or ATM ) and this is definitely FRAUD! When you call the number, it ask you to activate or deactivate your card by pressing 1 or 2.  However, other calls ask for you ATM number to be entered. DO NOT enter your number. You may even notice the numbers on the text are not the same as your card. Text Message: WELLS FARGO BANK ALERT: Your Debit/ATM card #42590 has been temporarily DEACTIVATED. Please call  (415) 203-8748

Yes, definitely a phishing attempt. This technique would be more effective if I actually had a Wells Fargo debit card.
