Beware of foreign speaking scammers!

Couldn't even understand his name. Told me I had won $3.5 million and if I sent him the one time $300 tax fee he would bring the check to my door. First off the fact that he says $300 tax fee makes me wonder who would actually fall for that? People really think Uncle Sam is only asking for $300 of $3.5 million. I told the guy to meet me at my door with the $3.5 million and I would give him $300 and a .45ACP to his head. He hung up. The crazy thing is I could hear 3 other people in the background talking to other people saying the same thing. So apparently there are enough idiots out there that fall for this to make it worth their time.

Also guy with broken english and muffled audio (named John Peterson from Emerging Cash Awards Center) said I won $5 million and to call him back.

Guy named Larry, broken english and muffled audio, wanted me to confirm my address to facilitate shipping me a package being forwarded.  SCAM

Hi folks, I just went to a one of these sales pitches. This is a very important message I want to get out to all you brides out there. Really, the bridal shows and bridal websites are great resources of information. but sometimes and somehow are contact information is released. Really one should be weary if you get a call from someone saying you win something, remember here, there is rarely anything you can get for "free". Be aware that these folks are using a "cover" company which can be a whole variety of names. Some names I have heard of are Royal Prestige, Simplicity Brides, Selected Brides.. but these are all companies that are selling Carico cookwear, china, crystal and silverwear. Be aware that this is happening nationwide and the newly engaged couples are the target group. If you cannot recall how your they got your work or cell numbers, recall any wedding websites that you've registered on (I've read that theknot.com was one of the sources for them)... or bridal shows that you filled out raffle tickets for. I distinctly remembered where my information was given... it was from myself. When I walked into the Great Bridal Expo Show (don't get me wrong, it's a great show :-), the guy up in front of the line handed me an important raffle for the $1000 gift.. and kept shouting in the crowd in line that it was very important for us to fill it out. And while we are standing in line waiting to register and chaos is going on with all these brides going into the show, you fill out the form and turn it in. That is exactly where I recall giving out the info. And at the registration table, they ask you to make sure to complete that raffle ticket and turn it into them. So I wanted to let you all know how this happens in detail.. and please beware and don't get sucked into the hype and really think this through if and when you go there. In one other discussion someone suggested leaving your wallet at home - a very wise suggestion. It's a long post, but all the details are fresh from a few days ago... and something I think is really worth the information you'll get out of it. Here are a few websites to check out while you are at it. I’m not sure if some of these are still good b/c I know the modern bride message board moved to a new site: http://boards.modernbride.com/groupee/forums/ ... 110158#73110158 http://www.101weddingtips.com/forums101/show_message.htm?mid=75071 http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/royal_prestige_trip.html http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsea ... 633000027000462 http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff172560.htm This is my story: I got the phone call at work.. She informed me that we won a 3 day 2 night vacation to an all-inclusive resort at the Dominican Republic, Bahamas or Mexico not including transportation to there, and we’d (my fiancé and I) each get a $500 gift certificate for merchandise. In order to receive these we would have to listen to a 90 minute presentation about their fine china, crystals, and cooking demonstration. fiance had to be present (they target couples). She also gave me their website so that I could check them out at vivaresorts.com and selectedbrides.com. Once I set a date, they gave me a confirmation number and told me to bring an ID (this is how they verify you were there). First the gift package that you have won. The $500 gift certificates we wouldn’t have to pay for anything except for the shipping and handling. Interestingly I looked at the GCs. It says on the back "if you have internet access, do this: Type in www.keshoppingspree.com on the Address Bar at the TOP of your web page (Do not use "Google" or any other search engine" Would you wonder why they would print that? So of course you do that and you find that those are a scam/customer complaints and the whole nine yards! Something about you get the $500 spree but have to pay for completely overpriced good and exorbitant shipping and handling fees. Then the free 3 day 2 night vacation has a ton of stipulations on the back of it, (I've seen lots of mixed posts about the trouble it took to actually get it vs enjoying it once they got there.) where you give 3 choices of dates you want, have to pay a $50 dollar deposit and you may or may not get your dates.. and may or may not hear from them. So anyway, the salesman starts his pitch, says the more participation and excitement the more discounts. He talks about the china, crystal glasses and the silverware, even stands on a china tea cup to show how strong it is, and uses the silverware to scrape at the design on the china. Etc… but spends a considerable time talking about the Carico cookwear. He pulls out this box of battered cookwear of all different kinds (aluminum, teflon, calphalon, stainles steel with aluminium bottom, etc). Goes into detail about how these are giving off bad chemicals that can cause Alzheimers and cancer, are causing teflon fumes that could could kill pets and holds up a xeroxed article in a plastic sleeve and occaisionally will solicit the help of the audience to read it out loud so we believe them. All though this he’s talking about the examples and holding up articles in plastic sleeves to prove his point and he’d go up to a few people to ask them to read out loud or if we was reading this correctly. So then he demonstrates his cookwear. And don't get me wrong these look like solid pieces of cookwear, but they claim that you can just put food in with only a little water or it's natural juices and walk away without having to monitor the food and just do something else until you hear the whistle built in to the top of the lid which you the close and let the food cook in its natural juices. They pour out the cholesterol into a plastic glass with ice cubes to show you all this cholesterol that will gunk up your arteries if you cook with extra oil. They cook some for you to taste, and it tastes great. They go over other features about their product... like how well it conducts hot or cold so he pours ice water into the pot and immediately the coolness is conducted all up and down the pot and that is why they can stack 3 pots high on the range and cook pots on top of other pots (?!?! how safe is that anyway) but here are the kickers: 1. Shows a price comparison of what Macy's _would have_ charged versus what they would charge Factory direct for a set of cookwear, a 4 sets of a china place sitting, set of 4 crystal glasses, and 4 sets of silverwear (ie, if you got this, you'd have to but another 4 b/c you wouldn't have enough anyway for the average 6-12 sittings that we're "supposed" to have.) He shows how Macy's would have priced this at over $8000, but here today, their cookwear was $1999.99 but they'd throw iin all the china, crystal and silverwear for 4 people (again a trap to get you to buy the rest of the set). And that then.... 2. we could easily pay for this b/c the installment plan is just $12 a week on average which is just a Combo #1 big mac and a Combo 2 whatever meal. (ask what the interest rate is = 24% and for how long??!?!). Also I've heard once you sign on this installment plan, and you've received your merchandise, you can't return it or cancel the installments b/c they threaten to ruin your credit score, or sue you (see the links I included above) 3. They have everyone go around to say what they like about the cookwear - which is like peer pressure and reinforcing their sales pitch by repeating what their pitch was 4. They offer a "cruise" which is really a boat ride to the Bahama's and a stay at a hotel and a boat ride back if you buy today - of which the voucher has to be sent into them. 5. And he rationalized that because of this high price, that is why they have to give us sales talks b/c we would have easily passed it up in the store. B/c they are the Snap-on or Cutco's of the cookware field. They we need to understand what is so special about their products. So I don’t know how, but I fell for it b/c of the health issues was convincing and on the way home I was even convincing my fiance that it was worth it b/c the free vacation would have been worth that value... and then when I got home after knowing the name of Carico cookwear I started looking it up online and found all those links above and realized crap, I think I've been duped! But the key thing is to know that on the front and back of the contract says that you have until midnight 3 business days after the show to cancel the transaction. Your best bet is not to call them, and wait for your salesmen to call, but seek out their office and deliver it in person. I found that on one of the postings on another website and pursued this and so far that I know, I've not had a problem yet. Some folks have signed something thinking they needed to in order to get the vacation.. but do not sign anything, do not relinquish your SSN, and don't give our your credit card number. and folks that call to return, have left messages and the salesman calls you back _after_ the 3 days and of course its _too late_ From all the info I've searched out in the last few days, its a bigger headache than its worth especially in this time of being tight on money and hectic times all supposed to be focused on the wedding planning that you don't need the head ache of all this. My fiance pointed out that there are other very nice all stainless steel professional pots out there, and that what they showed was not representative off all the different kinds of cookware out there. So though theirs is made of surgical steel, their sales/return/financing policy is what really hits you. Please be careful out there. I was thinking about this last night about how we have to keep an eye out there since scams seep into the bridal world also which is really sad b/c we supposed to be focusing on our happy celebration, not fighting about our cookware. Be weary and leave your wallets at home. And remember, nothing is really ever "free". :-)

I just got a couple calls from this number today for the first time ever. I've been registered with David's since march and the Knot.com for just as long, however I know its not the Knot.com. I reread their privacy policy and it states that they will not disclose ANY of your information under any circumstances. David's doesn't have that, also I JUST went to a bridal fair yesterday so I'm wondering if it may have been vendor there at the show.

I have been receiving calls from this number for the past couple weeks now. I finally called the number back and asked how they got my number. She transferred me to another rep and I asked her the same question. She said that myself or my fiance must have filled something out. We have not filled anything out. She then went onto say that we will give the vacation package to someone else and hung up.... She was very rude.I purchased a ring from Jared and they would be the only people who know I am engaged and have my number. I think they sold my number to them.It is hard to say for sure who sold my information but we will not be purchasing anything from David's Bridal and I am hesitant to purchase anything from Jared in the future.

I've been getting calls from this number, too. Turns out that it's some kind of bridal shop in Des Moines, IA. I'm getting married soon, and it's likely that one of the vendors or wedding sites I've signed up with has been selling off my information. (David's Bridal and theKnot.com are my two top suspects). I will never ever again give my real phone number to any company that I do not absolutely need to be able to contact me.

RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM LAST NIGHT, I KNOW IT IS NOBODY BECAUSE THEY WOULD LEAVE A MESSAGE. IT'S NOT A VERY IMPORTANT PHONE CALL IF PEOPLE DON'T LEAVE MESSAGES OR A CORRECT PHONE NUMBER TO BE REACHED WHEN YOU RECEIVE THE MESSAGE(S). TO ME, I JUST LET IT RING AND IGNORE THE CALL.

Received 3 phone calls within a 2 hours period from this number; caller ID indicated "Michigan."  Answered the 3rd time; got a rapid-speaking young lady, who I had to ask to slow down so I could understand her.  Apparently they are currently representing themselves as "Vista" services, a "promotional" company.  I cut her off right there and told her I am on the government's "Do Not Call List" and that I would need to report her.  She politely told me that she would place my number on Vista's "Do Not Call" list as well.  I still intend to report them; unless we take action, they will continue to harrass people.

They've called my cell twice today.  Mssg says they're confirmed shipment of a purchase.   Thing is, I never purchased anything from a company in Michigan.  The carrier of this number's service is Lucre, Inc in Michigan.  Of course, they won't tell me the name of their "client".  Spoke to a "Kevin" at Lucre @ (616) 361-0128 (Make sure you call from an unblocked number or you won';t be able to get through).  Of course "Kevin" said he didn't want to give his last name because he didn't want his name on the internet.  He did, however give up the name of the owner of Lucre, Steve Hill.  Of course Stevie doesn't have vm (go figure...why WOULD a telecom guy have vm??)  I say Kev and Stevie receive just as many phone calls......

Received several calls from this number this evening. Caller ID showed that the calls came from McBain, MI.  Dialed the number back and did not reach a live person but a very unprofessional message stated, "This is the shipping department. We have been trying to reach you to let you know that your order has shipped." The message went on to give options to continue to receive the calls by pressing 1 and to stop the calls, press 2 (I did neither). The message did not state the name of the company nor did it give a name of a person to contact regarding the call. I have not ordered anything recently so I do not know what this call is all about and after reading the above postings associated with this telephone number, am suspicious of it.

Call him on the main line 630-279-7600 and catch him off guard. Todd Pierce tries to act as an attorney although he i not and only a collection agent ( i have verified this). He will tell you that his client will sue if he does not get paid however, depending on the state you are in that is not correct. If you call him on the # i gave and ask for him, you will catch him off guard and control the situation. He tries to be very controlling and often violates the "Fair Debt Collection Act" Look it up! Good luck with this group!

Ok, i received a call from a Laura Ward acting as if she is an attorney with Brennen & Clark. The voice mail recording states she is in and out of meetings and returns calls throughout the day….they are really trying to fool you here. She originally called and left a case number. I returned her call immediately thinking the worst. Turns out, she is trying to collect on previous car insurance that I paid month-to month. In my mind, if I did not pay the next month, the insurance cancels. It’s not my fault you kept trying to insure someone who selected another insurance provider. So when the conversation first started, she asked if I had been served by the Sheriffs department…..ok, hell no, and for what might I add. She replied for none payment of insurance….ok, the call goes down hell from here. I thought it was really about something else. Told her I did not have the 203 she is requesting I would call back when possible. She told me I was lying and that she would contact her client and tell them to proceed. They would record it, and when the insurance companies audit, my new insurance provider would raise my rates. WHAT A CROCK! If I was not at work while trying to resolve this matter I would have cursed her out. I am in law school & you can’t fool a schooled snake. My last words for Ms. Ward was, “Go for It”. Grant it, I do commend them for the different approch to collecting; however, this may land them in court one day.

I said that this number was on my id and that I was wondering who it was. She asked who I was and I told her that I would not tell her until she told me who I was talking with. She said she would not tell me and hung up. Obviously it is not a legitimate company or she would have said whom she was working for. Also this was at nine o'clock in the evening.
